Ethics Professor to Discuss Military Technologies at Harvard University
Talks this spring include US Naval Academy, Cal Poly Science Café, local TEDx, and others

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – April 27, 2010 – Assistant philosophy professor Dr. Patrick Lin will be speaking at the 2010 Humanity+ Summit at Harvard University on June 12-13, 2010. His presentation will be entitled “Military 2.0: Ethical Issues in Human Enhancement and Robotics.” Acclaimed inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil will be the keynote speaker at the conference.

Also the director of the Ethics + Emerging Sciences Group at Cal Poly, Dr. Lin has been in demand as a speaker, given his research in technology ethics. Recently, in late April, he served as chair of the robotics panel and a speaker on the human enhancement panel at the US Naval Academy’s 10th annual McCain conference, at the Vice Admiral Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership—focused this year on emerging technologies and policy.

This spring, Dr. Lin also will be speaking at Cal Poly’s Science Café at Kennedy Library on May 12 on human enhancement ethics and will be a panelist at the local TEDx Chumash event on May 27. Following his talk at Harvard University, he will be speaking at the 20th annual Computers, Freedom and Privacy Conference in San Jose, California on June 15-18, with keynotes by Peter Cullen (chief privacy officer of Microsoft), David Drummond (chief legal officer of Google), and Debra Bowen (California’s Secretary of State).
